Unconditional and Unfailing Love

Valentine’s is around the corner and love is in the air. For many love birds, it is a special day to celebrate their love for one another. Couples get engaged, married, and even have their first date on this day. What is so special about this day? Well February 14 is a day where people celebrate their love and affection for one another. Valentine’s Day is shortened for Saint Valentine’s Day which many of you know the history. For now, let’s stay in the topic of love. We all have the word love in our vocabulary. A husband loves his wife, a wife loves her husband. Parents have love for their children. We love our pets. We love each other and so on. But many misuse the word love such as, “I love that car, I love that song, I love that city, and I love that food and many other things.” A lot of us do not know how to love or even want to love.
Where are we going with this? Well let’s talk about the true love that is unconditional and unfailing, the love of God. The Bible has many definitions of God’s love for us; one definition that we all are familiar with is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (NASB). This is a beautiful example of love. God is love. He has unconditional and unfailing love for us. He taught us how to love. “We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19 NLT). Many of us have not encountered the love of God. Many of us have not tasted the love of God. Many of us do not get the chance to experience the love of God. Brothers and sisters, you have the chance to change that. He loves us. His love for us saves us. We need to encounter the love of God. It can change your life. And after you encounter His love, you will never go back to the way you were. Now you can love others. In fact, it was Jesus who gave us a commandment about loving others. “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you must love each other.” (John 13:34 NLT). We cannot just say we love God; we need to love God from the inside out. With all that we have, we can love Him. Our love should be unconditional love for Him, though our love might be failing at times, we know that His is not. Remember, God’s love is unconditional, unfailing, everlasting, and undeniable and His love is perfect. So this Valentine’s day, enjoy it with your loved one, but also remember who gave you the chance to love. Jesus!

The Greatest Gift

Can anyone name the greatest, the best jaw-dropping gift you have ever received? As kids we can name numerous ones; that awesome toy of the year, the little toy cars, dolls, Barbies, action man figures, Legos, Frisbees, yo-yo's, and we  can't forget GI Joe, Play-Doh, Mr. Potato Head, gaming consoles and so on. Now we're little older, teenage years, and what was the greatest gift? The bicycle, the cd-player, the cassette player, (this was before the IPods and MP3 players), electronics, money and so on. Now we are adults, single, married, have jobs, drive our own car; can we name the great gift? Sure. A wife's greatest gift is the ring her husband gave her. A husband's greatest gift is the love he has for his wife. A parent's greatest gift is their children. Men like gifts such as golf clubs and women love being pampered with day spas and jewelry. All gifts we received are good, but not great. We tend to forget the greatest gift in our lives, Jesus Christ. As a believer, as a Christian, we know that the greatest gift in life is Jesus and Salvation. Through God's love and Jesus Christ, everyone and anyone can receive this greatest gift of all. Jesus is our gift from God who came to save us from our sins. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV). Many of us get busy and forget who gave us life, who gave us salvation and who saved us. You see, salvation is always there for us, but we have to help each other open the gift of salvation and present it to those who do not have it; we can do this by the way we act, speak and through the things we do. We need to tell others about Jesus and do our best by walking with Him, following his footsteps. We sometimes get discouraged and walk away from the path that Jesus has led for us. You don't have to be discouraged if your friends or family do not accept the gift right away because it takes longer for some people to open the gift of salvation. So brothers and sisters in Christ, stay in the light and do not let shadows discourage you. "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." (James 1:17 NIV). God bless all!
